Hi everyone! ✨
We are planning to go to the Women’s March this year and we hope a lot of you are too. ✊🏾 If you are, we are organising a crafting afternoon to make our own signs and witches’ hats!
Why witches?
Being called a witch has often been an insult directed to those women who did not conform to the gendered, raced, sexed, classed expectations of that society. The ‘witch’ is a person that does not respond to rules of how a ‘woman’ ought to look, behave, dress, talk, know and can be a powerful ally in feminist struggles. We at Wonda Women choose to reclaim, as our sisters have before us, the imagery of the witch as a symbol of resistance in the face of the capitalist patriarchy.
So, on the 8th March, much like the U.S.- based movement W.I.T.CH, we put on our witches' hats and take the streets of Amsterdam, to stand against a capitalist patriarchal model that reinforces and deepens inequality between bodies, sexualities, genders, colours, nations, religions, and that plays a fundamental role in climate change and environmental inequality.
No worries if you are not the craftsy-type. It is going to be an informal afternoon where we can all express ourselves in our own way. 🤗
We will take care of the materials, we only ask you to bring a small contribution of €3,- to cover the costs. You can pay at the location, please bring the exact amount because we might not have any change. 🎨
We are looking forward to it and hope you will join us for an afternoon of witch-crafting! 💜
