WHILE WE LIVE
-a compass to connection-

première of the new documentary-concert by Resonate Productions - musical journalism
LIVE : each time for an audience of 25

Many European countries show dramatic numbers of loneliness and depression amongst their youth (18-40 years old). This problem has only been intensified by the Corona-crisis. Ten years ago, musical journalist Andrea Voets (1989) started looking for a way of living in closer contact with others. She ended up in Greece, where she feels welcome and carried by lots of strangers around her. How do the Greeks manage to do this, in the midsts of an ongoing, deep economic crisis?

For While We Live -a compass to connection- , Andrea decided to make a social roadtrip through the country: from the metropole of Athens to the remote, tiny island of Lipsi and the mystic mountains of Eipiros. Together with dozens of Greeks of her generation, the ‘children of the crisis’, she deciphers the Greek social logic and their tools for meaningful contact, as an answer to an ever stronger undercurrent of alienation in society.

Andrea searches for ways out of this tough problem, in group-talks about trust, openness, sharing, being together, feeling close, the experience of time and tears-without-words. We get a secret peek into their fundamental values, that lie at the base of meaningful contact: practical & flexible ethics, filotimo & filoxenia, the connection with those who came before us and a surprising concept of catharsis & empathy. Ideas and actions that can be carried out by anyone, once you have had the chance to experience them.

The documentary-scenes are created by Andrea and filmmaker Myrto Papadogeorgou of Drastic. The live-music is composed and performed by Andrea (harp), Sarah Jeffery (recorders) and Evi Feelippou (percussion). On screen, they play together with 6 bands from Greece. While We Live is a collective experience for musicians and audience, that allows everybody in need of another social perspective to experience a new compass to connection.
